Which Mac do I have?

Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. If it says Chip: Apple M1 (or M2, M3, M4…), you have Apple silicon. If it says Processor: Intel, choose Intel.

Opening it for the first time? Here's what to click.

How it works

Pick it up.
Flick it. Done.

  1. Pick up any file on your desktop, in Finder or in File Explorer.
  2. A ring of options appears around it: formats, compression and more.
  3. Drop it on one. The new file lands right next to the original.

Private by design

Your files never leave your computer.

Conversion websites make you upload your file to someone else's server (contracts, photos, bank statements) and trust them to delete it. Flick does every conversion on your own computer. Nothing is sent anywhere, so there's nothing to leak.

0 bytes uploaded.
Ever.

Effortless

Nothing to open. Nothing to learn.

Flick waits quietly in your menu bar or system tray. There's no window to find and no upload page to fight with. You just drag a file, the way you already do.

Installing

Opening Flick for the first time

Flick comes from an independent developer, not through Apple's or Microsoft's paid developer programs. So the first time you open the installer, your computer shows its standard notice for apps it doesn't know yet. That notice doesn't mean anything was found in the file. You confirm it once; updates after that come through Flick, with no notices.

Mac

  1. Open the file you downloaded. Your Mac says Apple could not verify “Flick” is free of malware. That's the wording macOS uses for every app outside Apple's paid program. Click Done.
  2. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway next to the message about Flick. Confirm with your password or Touch ID, then click Open Anyway once more.
  3. In the installer, click Continue, then Install.

Windows

  1. If your browser says the file isn't commonly downloaded, choose Keep. New apps get this until enough people have downloaded them.
  2. Open Flick-Windows-Setup.exe. Windows says Windows protected your PC and Unknown publisher. Click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Follow the installer. No administrator password needed.

When it's installed, Flick opens by itself and waits in your menu bar (Mac) or system tray (Windows). Pick up a file to try it.

Is it safe? Check your download

Flick never sends your files anywhere. The only thing it asks the internet is whether a new version is out. Nothing else comes bundled with it. To be sure your download is exactly the one published here, compare its SHA-256 fingerprint (on a Mac: shasum -a 256 followed by the file; on Windows: certutil -hashfile followed by the file and SHA256).
